How to

Add your charity's details

How to enter the charity's legal name, registration number, address and signing officer, which go on every tax receipt.

Every official tax receipt shows the charity's details, so they must match what the CRA has on file. Owners and treasurers enter them once.

Steps

  1. On the home page, press Add the charity's details. Or open Charity details from the list.
  2. Type the Name, as registered with the CRA. It's on your CRA letters and last year's receipts.
  3. Type the Registration number, for example 12345 6789 RR 0001.
  4. Type the Mailing address, one line per row, as it should appear on receipts.
  5. Type Where receipts are issued: the town and province, for example Barrie, ON.
  6. Type the name of Who signs receipts, and Their title if you like, for example Treasurer.
  7. Press Save the charity.

Good to know

  • Not sure of the registration number? Search the charity's name in the CRA's List of charities at canada.ca.
  • If your school is registered as its own charity, with its own registration number, add it too, under Add another charity. If the school is part of the church's charity, don't add it separately.
  • The person who signs receipts should be someone the board has authorized, usually the treasurer.
